Timothy Gordon Ash on Russia

Obraz
Amidst the conflict and the strife, The West has shown remarkable life, United in defense of Ukraine, Against Russia's power-hungry reign. But has this unity come at a cost, Of influence and external exhaust? A question posed in a new poll, With answers that may take a toll. Western public opinion still stands strong, Against Putin's rule and his wrongs, Majority sees Russia as a foe, Reducing fossil fuel dependence as the way to go. The West's renewed power has been noted, By non-Western nations, feeling devoted, To seeing the West as a single entity, With policies that lack much diversity. But a gap still remains in perception, About the state of the world's direction, Less than 10% believe in a U.S. dominated future, Multipolar world is the vision of the many, not fewer. As the conflict rages on in Ukraine, And nations take their sides in the main, The world awaits with bated breath, What kind of order will come after this test.

Atak na radiostację

Obraz
Innocent am I, of the war's great strife, Though the radio waves carried words rife, Gliwice's station may have been the source, But I, Franciszek Dolas, bear no remorse. If I am blamed for the world's turmoil, Let it be known, it was not my toil, Accidentally, if I caused such harm, I plead for forgiveness, with no alarm. For I am but a simple man, Trying to live the best I can, Rhyming words to express my heart, Hoping my innocence, you won't depart.

Sławni afrykańscy pisarze Gurnah i Achebe

Obraz
Achebe In Nigeria's land, where the sun burns bright, And the Igbo people lived with all their might, A warrior named Okonkwo rose to fame, With his strength and courage, and his warrior's name. He was a man of pride, of power, and of wealth, Who followed tradition and the ways of his health, And rose to lead his people with might, In a world that was yet to face its plight. For the winds of change were soon to blow, As the white man arrived with a different flow, With their guns and bibles and their ways of life, That threatened the Igbo people's strife. Okonkwo saw this as a great threat, To his people's ways, and their cultural debt, He tried to resist the white man's hold, But soon found himself alone in the fold. The white man came with promises of light, Of a new religion, of a new sight, And the Igbo people, confused and lost, Began to see the white man's cost. Their language, their customs, their very soul, Began to crumble under the white man's co...

Murder in a kilt

Kate Forbes thought she had it all, To lead the Scottish Nation, But her views on social issues, Brought her to her present station. Against same-sex marriage, Gender self-identification too, Her beliefs are not in line, With the party and its crew. In just 48 hours time, Her campaign was on the brink, With little hope to carry on, Her leadership dreams did shrink. It goes to show that honesty, Is not always the way to win, Especially when your views, Are not the same as those within.

Mr. Tusk goes to Warsaw

Obraz
The scandal of pedophilia from the day before, And yesterday's argument over Pope John Paul II, Remind us that the elections have begun once more, But will they truly bring change, or just déjà vu? If the Civic Platform wins, it'll be a moral victory, But there'll be complete immobilization in sight, All their initiatives will be blocked by the President's authority, And the country will plunge deeper into the night. I used to call him "Długopis" with disdain, But now it seems he doesn't even listen to PiS, Tusk won't be heard at all, that's plain, And even the Constitutional Court is acting amiss. Ironically, we have checks and balances in place, But it's either freedom securing freedom or "rejtanizm", Or as the Americans say, "filibusterism", Or perhaps we're institutionalizing Polish political anarchism. We're returning to something Kaczyński fought against, And he'll probably admit defeat with a sigh, But am ...

O trybunale konstytucyjnym

Obraz
In the halls of power, a decision was made A gathering called, but the numbers didn't shade The legalities questioned, the outcome unclear A resolution passed, but not without fear The voice of reason spoke, with facts in hand The quorum wasn't met, the decision not grand The meeting was legal, but the vote was not And now the repercussions, cannot be forgot The stakes were high, the battle was fought A question of law, with implications wrought The president's plea, for the funds to flow Now hangs in the balance, with an uncertain glow The verdict unknown, the outcome unsure A nation held captive, in a legal demure For justice must reign, and laws must be upheld Or chaos and confusion, shall surely be dealt So let us wait and see, what the future may hold As the story unfolds, and the truth is told May wisdom and justice, be the victors of the day And may the rule of law, always have the final say.

Isobel, a name so sweet,

Obraz
Isobel Oakeshott, a name so sweet, Whose presence doth my soul entreat, Her words, her smile, her graceful gait, Are all the things that make me great. Her eyes are like the stars above, That shine so bright, with so much love, And in their depths, I see a fire, That burns so strong, it doth inspire. Her voice is like a gentle breeze, That rustles leaves upon the trees, And in its soft and tender tone, I hear a melody all its own. Oh Isobel, thou art so fair, A beauty beyond compare, Thou art the sun that lights my day, And in thy presence, I shall stay. So let me love thee, Isobel, And in thy heart forever dwell, For thou art all that I desire, My love for thee shall never tire.
