Timothy Gordon Ash on Russia
Amidst the conflict and the strife,
The West has shown remarkable life,
United in defense of Ukraine,
But has this unity come at a cost,
Of influence and external exhaust?
A question posed in a new poll,
With answers that may take a toll.
Western public opinion still stands strong,
Against Putin's rule and his wrongs,
Majority sees Russia as a foe,
Reducing fossil fuel dependence as the way to go.
The West's renewed power has been noted,
By non-Western nations, feeling devoted,
To seeing the West as a single entity,
With policies that lack much diversity.
But a gap still remains in perception,
About the state of the world's direction,
Less than 10% believe in a U.S. dominated future,
Multipolar world is the vision of the many, not fewer.
As the conflict rages on in Ukraine,
And nations take their sides in the main,
The world awaits with bated breath,
What kind of order will come after this test.
